I grew up in church. I knew the stories of Noah, Moses, Jonah, and David before I could even write my name. I memorized verses, sang in the choir, and knew when to stand, when to clap, and when to say “Amen.” But somewhere along the way, I realized I was living in the church - without truly being on fire for the One who built it.
For years, my walk with God was more routine than relationship. My faith was safe̶ly comtained within the walls of comfort and tradition. I read my Bible and said my prayers. I loved God, but I wasn’t yet living for Him with the boldness and urgency He deserved.
Then, an awakening occurred. Not a loud, dramatic scene, but a quiet stirring that grew into something undeniable̶ like a reality TV moment where the lights suddenly flash on and everything you thought you knew is revealed in truth. God began to open my eyes to see life through His light, vivid, raw, and alive. It was as if He whispered, “You’ve known Me through stories, now it’s time to walk in My story.” That awakening changed everything.
“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm… I will vomit you out of my mouth.” ̶Revelation 3:15‒16 (NKJV)
Those words cut deep because they mirror the condition of so many hearts toda - including my own in the past. Lukewarm believers blend in. We know enough about Jesus to be comfortable, but not enough to be courageous. We sit in the pews but rarely stand in the streets. We lift our hands on Sunday but keep them folded the rest of the week.
Lukewarm faith is polite, predictable, and powerless. But God is calling us to something far greater - an ignited life in the fire of His Spirit. When I finally surrendered, God began to turn up the light in every area of my life. I saw people differently - through His eyes. I saw the hurting in crowds, the lonely in families, and the lost in church pews. That’s when the message of Soul Adoption became more than a title̶, it became a mission.
“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God…” 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NKJV)
Here’s what the Holy Spirit has shown me through this awakening:
1. Return to Relationship. It’s not about religion or routine. Spend time with Jesus as you would with a dear friend. Let His Word speak life into your spirit, not just fill a checklist.
2. Repent of Routine. Ask God to expose where your faith has grown comfortable. Boldness begins where complacency ends.
3. Reignite with Purpose. Your testimony is not just what God did for you - it’s what He’s doing through you. Share it. Someone’s breakthrough depends on your boldness and willingness to reach out.
4. Reach One. Find the lukewarm, the weary, or the forgotten. Speak life into them. Pray with them. Show them that Jesus isn’t just a name we sing about - He’s a Savior who still changes lives today in everyone willing to surrender.
When we let the Holy Spirit awaken our hearts, our faith stops being a quiet flicker and it becomes a blazing torch. That’s the heartbeat of Soul Adoption - to see every believer move from passive to passionate, from lukewarm to living flame, from weak to powerful.
